Thule Hitching Post Pro Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches
The good: I like the way the bikes are held in and the ability to add the upright adapters to the bike frame holders. The straps are quality too. For a jeep with a spare tire, this is the perfect length to clear it. This rack is 5 stars from the bike holders to the base of it. The bad: the 2"receiver adapter and bolt are insufficient. I wish they made this in a solid 2" hitch. The entire setup is held into the receiver by a very short bolt. It only goes about half way into the receiver tube. So your hitch is only "secured" on one side. A hitch pin or bolt should go through the receiver tube completely imo so it can be secured on the other end with a retaining clip or nut. Because this only goes in the one side, the entire weight of the rack plus bikes are held tight to one side of the receiver by the undersized bolt and washer. A few bumps down the road and that bolt loosens. Now instead of distibuting the weight of the rack and bikes on the receiver and post, it's completely up to the bolt to keep you from losing the rack. The bolt threads get damaged too. I took this down a dirt road and nearly lost everything. I had to buy my own bolt with hd fender washers and lock washers to correct this. Thule should've provided this from the start. The current short bolt design where only one side of the receiver secures the rack is unacceptable. This rack is 1 star at best for the connection to the receiver.
I bought this bike rack back in April but wanted to make sure I used it to give the best review. First I want to say I did a lot of research on bike racks and found this one to be the best one to fit my needs. The best price I found was on etrailer.com, at the time it was When I called the customer service to place my order, I spoke to Dan. He was very pleasant on the phone and took the time and listened to what I needed and understood my concerns. I ordered the bike rack and also ordered the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device and the Thule Cable Lock w/ One Key System Lock. Dan suggested I also get the Thule Bike Adapter Bar, which I never even thought of getting. Delivery was in about two business days, which was really fast and at the time of order they were running a special free delivery over $99. When I went to put it together I noticed I was missing the flat cap screw M6 x 16mm, part number #853-5787-02. I emailed Dan and within 24 hours received an email that the part was sent out and also in the email their was a link to track the order. After I received the part I did notice that the flat cap screw was actually in the 2 inch adaptor sleeve. The instructions were very easy to read, and it took me about 20 minutes to put together. I did have an issue when I positioned the stinger into the cradle, with the 8mm locking nut, it was not staying tight and when I took it off I noticed the threads inside were gone, so I ended up going out to Lowes and buying a new one and its holds perfectly fine. I also had a question about that part because it is not a locking part and was worried someone would try to steal the rack. I contacted etrailer.com to find if they make a locking device for this and they said no but I can contact Thule to double check, I'm still waiting for an answer back from Thule. The weather finally broke and we installed the rack onto my hitch, tightened it and it doesn't rattle. When I finally used the rack and put my bike on, it did sway a little but at 50 mph I was very happy with it. The trailer comes out just enough away from my car that I do not have to fold completely out and I can open my trunk with no issues. I am very happy with my purchase and had a great customer experience with Dan. Would highly recommend ordering from them to anyone.

Swagman XC2 Bike Rack for 2 bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
I like the overall design of this rack, but unfortunately after hauling a couple bikes around for a while the point where the crossbar connects has apparently rounded off so the rack swings back and forth. I've used rope to tie the ends of the rack to the car to stop this from getting worse, but it's inconvenient. Note: the hitch connection itself is good and solid, but the point where the crossbar connects to the bar coming from the hitch has gotten loose and there's no way that I can see to tighten it.
It works great! Easy, quick, you know. One needs to screw in the hitch bolt, for some reason, before latching it. Other than that, it makes going bike riding way easier.

Swagman XTC4 Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
So far I’ve just assembled it and took a quick test drive around the block. My initial thought is this thing is perfect. It’s super sturdy and easy to use. My only gripe and it’s not fault of the rack, but it’s heavy…
If you've done any research or read any of the other comments on either this rack, or this seller...rest assured they really are as good as everyone says! I ordered my rack on around 4pm est on a Friday afternoon and within an hour I received an email that said they have shipped my product AND upgraded to priority shipping. Can't say enough positive things about the customer service! When the rack arrived, it took me a little over half an hour to get it set up. Probably would e been faster if I were even slightly mechanically inclined (or if didn't I didn't have to borrow a socket wrench from my neighbor). We finally had an opportunity to load up the bikes and head out for a ride today. As others have said, the first time you load up your bikes, it's kind of like a puzzle to get them situated. Took about 15 minutes. This rack is awesome! Very sturdy and the bikes were very secure. Only racks I have had in the past were rooftop fork mount racks. This is so much easier! On e we got to the trail (over an hour drive) getting the bikes off was a piece of cake. Afterwards, it was time to load them back up and it was less than 5 minutes to get them all on and ready to hit the road. There were other 4-bike racks on the website, but this one had enough great reviews that I felt comfortable making the purchase. After the fact, I'm very glad I did! I can't imagine the $800 rack can be that much better than this, and I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a 4-bike platform rack. I will definitely recommend this rack and etrailer.com to everyone I know.

Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
First-time rack buyer / owner / installer. The rack arrived in a timely fashion, maybe a day or 2 ahead of schedule. It was well packaged. I’m LOVING this bike rack. It was easy to put together and to mount on my new Honda Passport. Thus far, no squeaks in my 2” receiver. Hardest part of initial set-up is figuring out the best way to position two bikes. Trial & error and some patience. The directions weren’t clear as to where the 2 left-over screws went. I found the answer in another review and have posted a pic in case others have the same problem (photo with pen pointing at screw). These screws go in the underneath side of both of the folding arms. They appear to keep the wheel wells from sliding off in case in you drive with an empty, un-folded rack, and forgot to tighten down the wheel wells. The folding arm push / pull pins can be difficult at times. I coated the tips with some lube. That and a little jiggling seems to solve that issue. I guess it’s better for the pins to be snug vs popping right out. I added a small Master lock to the hitch pin (in lieu of the provided cotter pin) as a theft deterrent. I read that a 3/16 shackle lock will fit into the bike clamp down arms to also act as a deterrent. I had an old 3/16 lock that did snugly fit and appeared to be locked. HOWEVER, I yanked on the lock and it came open as there isn’t quite enough clearance for the shackle to lock. I discovered that longer 3/16 shackle locks are hard to find. Have attached a photo of the lock that actually fits and works (Ace Hardware). One lock on the upper clamp down arm will secure both arms as the lower arm can’t be removed without removing the upper arm. The clamp down arms appear to be coated to prevent damage to your bike. I’ve tried a simple rag and ultimately settled on pool noodle pieces as a precautionary measure. I CAN NOT open my tailgate (regardless of whether or not the rack is fold up and in the bike carry position). If that’s a concern for you, then spring for the more costly titling version. My back-up camera still functions.
The Swagman XTC-2 platform bike carrier arrived very quickly from etrailer and in good shape, the actual carrier box is inside another shipper box, which I'm sure helped with its condition. Assembly was relatively quick and painless, even though the instructions could be a little more thorough. Installing the carrier on the back of our Jeep Patriot also was quick, it helps to have an extra ratchet & 3/4" socket laying around for just this purpose. Installing the bikes takes a little patience and trial and error the first time you try and put them on the carrier. It's easy enough to adjust the wheel holders to fit the wheelbase of your bikes, but for us at least, the challenge was trying to swing the vertical support bar up into position after putting on the first bike (closest to the Jeep). We couldn't angle the bike enough toward the Jeep to have the bar clear the bike. We learned that the easiest way to secure the first bike was to remove the ratcheting frame hooks altogether, put the bike in the carrier, swing up the vertical support bar, put in the pin, and then slide one of the frame hooks down on the bar. The outside bike is much easier because you can set the bike in the carrier at whatever angle you need, not being limited by the back of the vehicle. One thing we did to protect the bike frames was to use some foam pipe insulation as cushion between the frame hook and the frame (see pictures). Once you get a system for installing the bikes, it is very quick to load/unload them. The rack seems to be well made and doesn't wiggle excessively when traveling. All in all a good product for a good price, would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a platform bike carrier.

Yakima RidgeBack Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting
Check out my other review on the hidden hitch for a 2015 BMW 4 Series for the majority of the review, but this thing is great. Easy setup and install, does all the things it's supposed to do. Mounting and removing bikes is a snap with the included clips (big difference from some of the cheaper variants with nylon ratchet straps). Fits very snugly in my 2" receiver, and pretty solid on the highway and over bumpy roads.
First trip with 3 bikes. Nary a wobble. The anti-sway strips appear to make a big difference.

Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms
Performed perfectly on a 140 mile round-trip in my 2017 Acura MDX. It took me a few tries to position the anchors inside the top of the hatch, but I got the hang of it and the rack did not shift at all while driving 50-60 mph on the highway.
Excellent quality! Bike rack comes fully assembled. Cam locks hold the upper support and the bike arms in position and are very easy to use.fairly useless included cable lock. Will only work if you always carry 3 bikes. I just used my cable lock and had no problems transporting my bike to the trails.

Thule Passage Trunk Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - Hanging Style
Excellent and prompt customer service! When I first ordered my product it wasn’t in stock— staff were quick to let me know and offered me comparable products. I ended up waiting for my original order and shipping quick and they stayed in touch with ideas! Thule: The instructions could be a little more detailed. I ended up watching YouTube videos to help me instal. Overall it was easy, and this was the first rack I’ve ever installed and I did it by myself! I was surprised to learn the bike rack is in no way secured inside your vehicle, so.. I store it in my garage when it’s on.
Positive: The product is well thought out and works for a wide range of automotive vehicles. It comes with interesting dampers that i think work. Instructions seem to be translated from another language, but are quite good, accompanying pictures make installation straightforward. A test drive over speed bumps shows that the rack will support the bike for all travel needs. It can be disassembled , collapsed and stored in the trunk. Downside: The rack is made for the classic triangular shaped frame: horizontal cross bar, "male" bike. For bikes without the horizontal bar, mounting is a little less satisfactory. Such a bike can only be mounted on the outside mounts. Cannot use the damper on one side. Picture shows the mounting. as to a design solution, maybe brackets could be replaced with smaller profile, some adjustability? however, as it is, vibration control is good and adjustability with smaller profile would have vibration concerns.

Thule Passage 3 Bike Carrier - Trunk Mount
Fits perfectly on our Lexus CT200h. Only on the old LS400, the side straps have to be fastened to the wheel arch edge, since the upper trunklid gap is to narrow for inserting the strap hooks. Mounting of two bikes is (with some routine) quickly done, and they stay safe even for longer and faster routes. For transporting three (mountain) bikes, though, the design doesn't seem big and robust enough. Nevertheless, the price-benefit-fun ratios are way better than reasonable.
We are very pleased with the quality and ease of use for our like-new purchase. From the online shopping experience with etrailer.com through multiple outings already, this bike carrier more than meets our needs. Thank you!

Kuat Beta Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Tilting
I did a lot of research and decided this was the rack for me. I was totally correct. First, it has all the most important features but only weighs about 14 lbs. I was concerned as a senior lady with arthritis issues. I can use it well and it performed perfectly with an adapter bar for my Electra Townie. I have had compliments from several seasoned riders and a bike shop owner here at the beach who said it was great quality and I got a great price. Also purchased a locking trailer hitch pin with bike cable from etrailer. All over satisfaction with products and etrailer who provided enough videos to help me.
This product is exactly what I wanted. The 2" post fits in the reciever perfectly, and no wiggle. I did tighten the mounting screw, but didn't have to change the hardware I have already (locks). There are two more screws to reduce the wiggles at each pivot point, and there was little to begin with. I tend to test way beyond the breaking point, and did some aggressive driving with every bump across town to the first ride. All good and I won't worry while driving with the bike attached moving forward. Only thing I wish it had was a locking mechanism, but I used a wire cable and lock. The other comparable ones with a lock were 2X the price. I can use the additional lock if I have other plans than just a trail. Service has been outstanding and I will look for any future purchases of this kind to be through etrailer.

Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount
Works well for transporting two 29" wheeled mountain bikes. However, after one year it's starting to rust in several areas (see attached photos), and the front wheel arms are becoming increasingly difficult to raise and lower. Finally the locking cable is extremely rusty as you can see in the attached photo. I'm not sure how durable this rack will be long term.
We have had this bike rack for one year and use it every week-end. My wife has a Trek e-bike (52 lbs) and I have a regular Trek hybrid (23 lbs). The rack is very sturdy and I have no issues driving at highway speeds, there is no movement of the bikes. Very easy to load and unload.

So anything heavier than that, we don't wanna use it. And if you do have a carbon fiber frame bike, it's not really the best rack for that just because we do have some frame contact.

Swagman Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2022 Acura MDX
Hello neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we are taking a look at the Swagman XC2 two bike platform style bike rack on a 2022 Acura MDX. When it comes to hitch mounted bike racks, there's plenty of options out there, but really, you're gonna divide those in two different ways. Hey, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at how the Swagman Chinook two-bike platform rack fits on the 2020 Acura MDX. So, the Swagman Chinook is a popular bike rack if you're looking for something that is super low profile but is also heavy-duty. RockyMounts RV and Camper Bike Racks Review - 2020 Acura MDX
Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer and today we'll be taking a look at how the RockyMounts AfterParty swing away bike rack fits on a 2020 AC Acura MDX. So the RockyMounts AfterParty is pretty much the RockyMounts GuideRail dual wheel mounted bike rack that can also swing away. So if you want a full look at the features and specs, check out the great demo my friend Aidan did on this bike rack here at etrailer.com. We're gonna focus on the Acura MDX, mainly how much clearance do we actually get and how much can we carry on this rack It has a 60 pound per bike weight capacity. If you need to open up the hatch like the GuideRail, you have to tilt that down which means you have to lift all that weight on your own. And if you don't have this fully maxed out with that 60 pound per bike weight capacity that can be a pretty heavy lift.

Whether it be the trail head, any kind of destination you can take it on. Gonna be great for us to consider leaving too is I think the Transfer does an excellent job is staying kind of lightweight, easy to move, easy to take off. And also doesn't take up too much room here on the back of our vehicle. Now, we'll say things just run out of the gate.
Thule Hitching Post Pro Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2020 Acura MDX
Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Acura MDX, we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Hitching Post Pro 4-bike rack. So one of the big questions we get asked all the time in regards to hitch-mounted bike racks, is if you're still going to be able to have full hatch access to the back of your SUV.Well, this does fold down out of the way and gives us the ability to do that. Down here, we'll have this pin and clip simply just pop that out. And then this actually drops down quite a bit, definitely more than others available. So when it is like this we're going to have a ton of space.

Hi there MDX owners. Today in our 2019 Acura MDX, we're going to be taking a look at and test fitting Thule's Helium Pro two bike rack hanging carrier. These are also available in a three bike rack version here at etrailer.com. Now, I've currently got my grandpa's bike on here from the 80s, but it'll work great with any modern bike as well. It's held in place with three mounting locations, two on top, and one on the vertical beam here. And, the vertical beam helps prevent any sway, so there's no bike-to-bike or bike-to-rack contact.
Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack Review - 2019 Acura MDX
Hi there, MDX owners. Today on your 2019 Acura MDX, we're going to be taking a look at and test fitting Thule's Apex 4, hanging bike rack carrier. Now we've currently got my grandpa's bike from the 80s on it, but it'll work with all modern bikes as well, too. So whether you're using a children's bike, or a mountain bike on it, it'll handle the job. I will say on some of your smaller children's bikes, you may need to use Thule's adapter bar in order to get it to mount properly. The bike's held in place with three points of contact. Each cradle has a rubberized surface on the bottom, so that way you don't have to worry about any scratches or abrasions.
Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2019 Acura MDX
Today on our 2019 Acura MDX, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Platform Style 2 Bike Rack. That's part number HR1450Z.Now, right away, I've already got it loaded it up just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it's going to hold our bikes. This bike rack, you can put two add-ons on the back of it. You can put a cargo carrier, so you can carry two bikes and some extra cargo, or you could put a two-bike extension on the back of it, allowing us to carry a total of four bikes. Now, you can pick all of that up as a kit right here at etrailer.com, so be sure and check that out if you're interested. Now, it holds our bikes by their top tube. That rubber-coated hook goes over that top tube, puts down pressure into the cradles, and then a hook and loop strap keeps our bikes in place.
Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2019 Acura MDX HR200Z
Today on our 2019 Acura MDX we're going to take a look at our Hollywood Trail Rider Two-Bike Platform Rack. It's part number HR200Z. Now we have it installed on our MDX here to give you a good idea of how it would look. The first thing I'd like to point out: with our bike installed on this side of the rack, we pretty much lose all of our hatch access. However, we do have a solution for that, and I'll show you in just a second.First, I'd like to point out how our bike is secured. It uses a rubberized locking frame hook.
Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2018 Acura MDX
Adam: Hi everyone, Adam with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Helium 2 platform style bike rack on a 2018 Acura MDX. So first things first is this going to be a two or a one bike platform style rack. So the one you see here obviously is the two bike version. It's going to be able to get two bikes to and from your destination, but it's really going to be for your road bikes or your mountain bikes. We can't get any fat tire bikes or any e-bikes on here due to the weight and the tire width.
Rola Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2017 Acura MDX
Hey there, MDX owners. Today on your 2017 Acura MDX, we're going to be taking a look at the Rola TX two bike rack. It's also available in a three bike version. The Rola TX is a hanging style bike rack. What that means is it's going to hold your bike in place by its top tube using the two straps and the bike will sit in the cradles. Additionally, there's an anti-sway cradle with a strap and what that's gonna do is it's going to prevent any bike-to-bike contact by reducing sway in the bike so that it doesn't come in contact with any other bikes or with your rack. Some bikes with smaller frames like women's and children's bikes or our mountain bike here may require the use of a bike adapter bar to work with hanging style bike racks. What that's going to do is just give you a wider opening to be able to fit your bike on so that you can hang it.
Thule Helium Pro 2 Bike Rack Review - 2017 Acura MDX
Hey there, MDX owners. Today on your 2017 Acura MDX, we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Helium 2-Bike Rack. The Thule Helium's best feature is in it's name, helium. It's an incredibly lightweight bike rack that you should have no trouble installing yourself into your hitch. It's a two bike rack, it's also available for three bikes, and it holds your bikes in place by their top tube using two straps on top, and one strap on the side. That's our anti-sway, and that's going to prevent any bike-to-bike and bike-to-rack contact. Now as with all hanging style bike racks, some bikes may require the use of an adapter bar if there's not enough room in the frame to be able to get your bike on there.
Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Acura MDX
Hey everybody, welcome to etrailer.com. I'm Bobby, and today we're taking a look at the Kuat Transfer V2 2-bike platform rack on our 2016 Acura MDX. Now I really like the Transfer for a lot of reasons. It does things very, very well and very simply for us. Right out of the gate, you can see that we are gonna have a tire hold pattern here. So if you work in a way of getting those carbon frame bikes up on our rack system with you, this is gonna be a great option.
Saris Door County 2 Electric Bike Rack Review - 2016 Acura MDX
Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Saris Door County two-bike rack, right here on our 2016 Acura MDX. So this is the Saris Door County or what I call the elevator bike rack. That's because if you power it with your 7-way system, it then lifts and lowers, making easier to move your bike onto it, especially when you have those heavy electric bikes, that makes that easier, and once it's all strapped down, you can then just lift the bike rack up and you're ready to ride. So we'll take a look at some of the different features, but focus on how it works with your Acura MDX and just some different things that would make it easier for you, but also possibly more difficult. This has a weight capacity of 60 pounds per bike.
Yakima TwoTimer Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Acura MDX
Jake: Hey guys, it's Jake here with eTrailer. Today we have a 2016 Acura MDX, and we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima TwoTimer Bike Rack. This is going to be a platform style bike rack that's going to hold your bikes by a hook on the top tube, and down strapped to two cradles. Now one of the biggest issues when hauling a hitch mounted bike rack on our SUV like we have here, is that you're not going to be able to access your rear hatch with any bikes loaded. But, with the feature on the TwoTimer, is you can lift up on the back here, pull out on this pin, and lower it down to tilt it away from our vehicle, to give us access to our rear hatch. This is going to allow us to get into our rear hatch and get any gear we may have forgotten, or while we're at the grocery store, if we stop somewhere closer to our destination, we're going to be able to tilt our loaded bikes away from our vehicle and load up the back of our car. Then when you're done, you just close up your rear hatch and tilt your bike back up into place.Let's go ahead and remove our bike.

RockyMounts Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 acura MDX RKY10222
Today on our 2016 Acura MDX, we're going to be doing a test on the Rockymount's WestSlope platform style two bike rack.As you can see, I've already got it in place here, just give you a good idea what it looks like on our MDX.What's unique about this bike rack is it holds our bike only by its tire, there's no frame contact. We don't need to worry about any scratches or abrasions caused by any frame hooks or anything like that, it holds our bikes by their tire. In the rear, we've got a wheel strap going over that tire to keep that in place. Again, no frame contact. It's the perfect way to haul around a carbon fiber bike.It also tilts away so we can gain access to that rear hatch, like most premium style racks, we can pull out that pin, it tilts away, we've got more than enough room to remove any of that cargo gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip. As you can see, it opens up, more than enough room.
What our customers are saying:
"I purchased a hitch, wiring harness, bike carrier and bike adapter for a newly redesigned 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. Everything arrived in a matter of days and either fit or worked perfectly. Great prices, quality and service support. Rest assured, I'll be recommending you to anyone who asks. Thanks again."
